Market Review October 21, 2009     
 
Wells Fargo (WFC) reported they earned $3.24 billion, or 56 cents a share, in the third quarter, up from the $1.64 billion they earned in the same quarter last year, also topping analysts’ expectations of 37 cents per share. Morgan Stanley (MS) was able to post its first profitable earnings in a year today, the investment firm said they earned $757 million, or 38 cents per share, from $7.7 billion, a year earlier, analysts estimated $0.30 a share. Stocks rose with all of the positive earnings reports, Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 90 points, the Nasdaq Composite Index shed 14 points and the Standard & Poor\'s 500 Index shed 9 points. Bond prices rose, the yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note fell to 3.38 from 3.41 Tuesday, the dollar was mixed against other currencies. Crude oil rose $2.25 to $81.37, gold also rose $5.90 to $1,064.50.
